Apple seeks developers for reality show "Planet of the Apps"

. Apple put out an open casting call last week seeking app developers for a new reality show. Called "Planet of the Apps," the show is scheduled to begin production later this year. It is Apple's first original T.V. show and will focus on app developers competing against each other for funding from venture capitalists. Consider it a "Shark Tank" for the mobile set. Producers of the show are requesting that potential contestants submit video on or before August 26th. Applicants must agree to have a beta of their app, or a functional version, running on iOS, macOS, tvOS or watchOS by October 21st. Developers that make it onto the show will be helped along by tech and entertainment experts, receive up to $10 million in funding, and get promoted in the App Store. Developers are not required to take the money or give up equity in their app.
"Over 2 million apps are available on the App Store, with new apps published every day. Planet of the Apps will give app creators the chance to break through and share their ideas with the world. This is an exciting format that taps into what is driving culture today. We can’t wait to see the groundbreaking ideas accepted for the show grow into viable businesses."-Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens, co-founders, Propagate
" Apple is hoping that the show becomes a big hit like ABC's "Shark Tank" with its message that the American Dream is open for anyone to achieve. With producers of the show expected to be pouring over video submissions over the next six weeks, Planet of the Apps does not yet have an air date.
